Bottom is solid; you tip it to let water drain out of the small perforations opposite the side with a lip, so you can keep a good grip on it. The holes are nice and small. No worrying about any rice grains slipping through. Plenty of other things you can rinse with it, veggies as well as grains like quinoa, etc.
Oval shape is much easier to manage than a round sieve, and it holds more than even a large sieve. It's good, solid plastic, not too rigid, and easy to wash.
